About
ComboShelf is a keyboard shortcut directory: 5,256 shortcuts across 50 apps, free, and every set names the source it was checked against.
Why it exists
Shortcut lists are everywhere and most of them are bad. They are alphabetical when nobody thinks alphabetically, they are copied from each other without checking, they leave the Mac column off, and they never say when they were last looked at. A reference you cannot trust is worse than no reference, because you learn the wrong key and then have to unlearn it.
How the sets are put together
- Grouped by what you are trying to do. Nobody wakes up wanting the shortcut beginning with F. They want to paste something without the formatting coming with it.
- Checked against the source, with the source named. Every app page says what it was checked against and on what date, and links to it. Where the vendor publishes its own list, that list is the authority and this site says so.
- Both platforms, side by side. Where an app runs on Windows and on a Mac, both sets of keys are on the page. The page shows you the one you are on and remembers which you asked for.
- Honest about the gaps. Where a shortcut needs a setting switched on, only works in one version, or differs between apps, the page says so rather than pretending it is simple.
The keyboard
Every app page carries a diagram of a keyboard. Point at a shortcut and it lights the keys that shortcut uses; hold a key down and it shows you that too. It is there because a shortcut is much easier to remember as a shape your hand makes than as a line of text.
The marks on the cards
Each app has a small icon for what it does, an envelope for mail or a film slate for video, so you can find the one you want without reading. They come from a free icon set, not the makers' logos, and every product is listed with its maker on the trademarks and credits page. Nothing on this site is affiliated with or endorsed by any of those companies.
Who runs it
ComboShelf is published by Inyonitech Solutions (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa. It is independent, and is not affiliated with any of the companies whose products it documents. The contact page has the address to write to.
How it is paid for
Nothing yet. The intention is adverts, and nothing else. There is no subscription, no premium tier, no newsletter and no affiliate link anywhere on this site. Nothing is behind a sign-up, and nothing ever will be. The privacy page sets out exactly what the advertising does and does not do.
Corrections
