The short version

ComboShelf has no accounts and no database of users. There is nothing to sign up for, nothing to log in to, and no form on this site that sends anything anywhere. The only information that reaches us at all is aggregate website statistics with no identifier attached, and whatever you choose to put in an email if you write to us.

No advertising script is loaded and no advert is shown.

Who is responsible

This site is operated by Inyonitech Solutions (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa. The company is the responsible party under the Protection of Personal Information Act, and the controller under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation where those apply. Our Information Officer is registered with the Information Regulator and can be reached at hello@comboshelf.com.

What we do not collect

  • No accounts, sign-ups, usernames or passwords. There is nothing to register for.
  • No contact forms. The only way to reach us is by email, which you choose to send.
  • No newsletter, no mailing list, no marketing.
  • No session recording, heat maps or behavioural profiling.
  • No logging of your activity on our own servers. The site is static files.

The keys you press

Three parts of this site watch the keyboard: the diagram of a keyboard on the app pages, which lights up the key you are holding; the drill on the practice page, which compares what you pressed against what was asked for; and the search, which opens when you press Ctrl+K, Cmd+K or the slash key and matches what you type in its box against a list of shortcuts the page downloads from this site.

All three run entirely inside the page. No key press is recorded, stored or sent anywhere, and what you type into the search is not sent, not stored and not put in the page's address. The drill does keep a tally of your practice, so that it can show you your progress next time; the next section says what it holds. The practice page goes further and loads nothing at all from any third party, including advertising and the page-view counter: its content security policy forbids it, so the browser enforces that promise rather than taking our word for it.

What is stored on your device

ComboShelf keeps two things in your browser's local storage, on your own computer. Under cs.prefs, which keyboard you asked to see, Windows or Mac. Under cs.drill, once you have used the practice drill, your progress in it: how many runs you have done and your best scores, and how often you got each shortcut right. Neither is sent to us, and neither identifies you. The cookies and storage page lists both in full, with how to remove them.

Clearing your browser's site data for this site deletes them permanently, and "Clear my progress" on the practice page deletes the drill's. We hold no copy, so there is nothing for us to delete and nothing for us to restore. The site works with storage blocked; it simply asks your browser which keyboard you are on each time instead, and the drill forgets.

Two kinds of link carry what you put in them. A challenge link from the drill carries the set, an order code and your score, and a sheet you build by ticking rows on an app page is kept in its page's address as the list of rows you ticked. The order code, the score and the list sit after the # in the address, the part your browser leaves out when it asks our host for a page, so the host never receives them. A script running in the page can still read the whole address. The practice page, where a challenge link opens, runs none from anyone else; app pages carry Cloudflare's page-view counter, which can see a sheet's list of rows. The list names shortcuts on that page and nothing about you.

Who serves the pages

The site is static files, served by Cloudflare. Like any host, it sees the IP address, the browser's user agent and the time of each request, because it cannot deliver a page without them. Those logs belong to the host and are kept under its own policy; we do not read them, download them or keep a copy.

Website statistics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It is cookieless, sets no identifier on your device, and does not follow you to other sites. It reports the page, the referrer, the browser, the country and how quickly the page loaded, and totals such as how many people viewed a page. It does not tell us who you are and we cannot connect a visit to a person.

No Google Analytics, no tag manager, and no social media pixel is used anywhere on this site.

Advertising

No adverts run on this site and no advertising script is loaded. If that changes, this page will say so before it does, and the consent arrangements will be described here.

If you email us

Writing to hello@comboshelf.com is the only way to send us anything. We use what you send only to answer you. Correspondence is kept for up to twelve months and then deleted, unless we are required to keep it longer. We do not add you to a list and we do not pass your address to anyone. We handle it because you chose to write and we have a legitimate interest in answering (section 11(1)(f) of the Protection of Personal Information Act, and Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR where that applies). The mailbox is kept by an email provider whose servers may be outside South Africa.

Your rights

Where we hold personal information about you, which in practice means an email you sent us, you have the right to ask for a copy, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, and to object to our using it. Write to hello@comboshelf.com and we will answer.

If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, to the Information Commissioner's Office in the United Kingdom, or to the data protection authority where you live in the European Union.

Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 18. Since the site collects nothing from anyone, there is nothing held about a child for us to delete.

Changes

If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. We do not make a change here quietly and describe it later.

ComboShelf

A keyboard shortcut directory for the apps you actually work in. Every set names the source it was checked against, and the date.
